Good Will Hunting is a movie by Gus Van Sant and was written by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. It is set in Cambridge, Boston; and follows the life of Will Hunting, played by Matt Damon. Will is a 20 year old orphan with no ambition in life, but is a genius at mathematics. Will is a Janitor at MIT and a mathematics professor Lambeau, played by Stellan, When Lambeau puts a very hard maths equation on a whiteboard, expecting a small bunch of his students to eventually get it. Someone mysteriously gets it correct, but doesn’t reveal himself. Lambeau, questioning who could’ve done it, and at the speed it was finished, tries to find out who it was, but when no one owns up to it, he decides to put and even harder one up one the board. When Will strolls past it he starts to do it, before Lambeau turns the corner. Lambeau, thinking Will is actually just a vandal, shouts abuse at him, before realising that Will is actually the genius.
. While this happens, Will gets into a fight with an old childhood bully, when the police attempt to restrain him; he kicks the officer on the leg and gets arrested. When Lambeau finds out he may be going to prison, he decides to get Will out, but only if he goes to a therapist. After Will sees a few therapists and doesn’t take it seriously, Lambeau is forced to go to his old roommate in college, Sean. Sean, who is a widower, met his wife after missing game 6 of the 1975 World Series, and following a fight with cancer has passed away. After a tough first session, slowly Sean gets to know Will One night Will goes out with his friends to a bar and meets Skylar, who is with her friend, played by Minnie Driver. Skylar immediately is drawn to Will, and Will is attracted to her, after sticking up for her against another college student, who Will outsmarted. Will and Skyler get into a relationship, when Will tells Skylar that he has 12 brothers called Marky, Ricky, Danny, Terry, Mikey, Davey, Timmy, Tommy, Joey, Robby, Johnny and Brian, she immediately wants to meet them. Will decides to just let her see his friends Chuckie, Billy and Morgan at a bar when they all hit it off, Skylar mentions Wills brothers and Chuckie, played by Ben Affleck, seems curious. This is because he knows that Will is making it up.
Skylar announces to Will that she is going to California and wants him to go with her. Will turns on her and tells her that he in fact doesn’t love her, and tells her the truth that he doesn’t have 12 brothers and was abused as a boy. Will gets a job interview with the NSA but turns it down. He still goes to see Sean and tells him that he and Skyler broke up. When Sean hears about how Will was abused, he repeatedly tells him that it wasn’t his fault. Will eventually breaks down in Sean’s arms. Will then decides to leave Boston and go after Skyler in California. Chuckie goes to his door and realises he has left, but instead of being angry he smiles and goes back to his car without Will.
I feel that Good Will Hunting was an amazing movie, and even though the movie follows a very basic narrative, the performance of the actors makes the film an instant classic, with the late Robin Williams winning an Oscar for best supporting actor. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck wrote the script when they both were very young, and won the Oscar for best screenplay.
Home Alone
Director: Chris Columbus
Producer: John Hughes
Writer: John Hughes
Starring: Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard and Catherine O’Hara
Soundtrack: John Williams
Budget: $18 million
Box Office: $476.7 million Review Home alone is a movie by Chris Columbus and written by John Hughes. It is about a young boy called Kevin McCallister whose family accidentally go to Paris without him, and how he must fight off the wet bandits, Harry and Marv. It is Christmas time and the McCallister family is preparing for a vacation in Paris, France. But the youngest in the family named Kevin got into a scuffle with his older brother Buzz and was sent to his room which is on the third floor of his house. Then, the next morning, while the rest of the family was in a rush to make it to the airport on time, they completely forgot about Kevin who now has the house all to himself. Being home alone was fun for Kevin, having a pizza all to himself, jumping on his parents' bed, and making a mess. Then, Kevin discovers about two burglars, Harry and Marv, about to rob his house on Christmas Eve. Kevin acts quickly by wiring his own house with makeshift booby traps to stop the burglars and to bring them to justice. I think Home Alone isn’t a great movie because the acting isn’t the best, and how unrealistic the movie actually is, but the characters and how attached you are to Kevin with his witty comments and his smart thinking make the movie a Christmas classic.
